PERCIPI - A Graduate Philosophy Journal

General conditions

Percipi accepts original papers (research articles, discussion pieces, reviews) in any area of philosophy (including History of Philosophy), in an analytical style. The language of the journal is English (US spelling preferred). Articles should generally be less than 8,000 words, discussion notes and reviews less than 3,000 words. To keep production costs down, all of the work is conducted electronically.

Please read these instructions before submitting your work to the journal.

Submission-review process

Percipi is a peer-reviewed journal. All contributions shall be reviewed by graduate students from the Department of Philosophy (CEU), with the support of the advisory board.

The authors are instructed to submit their contributions the editors by email, at percipi@ceu.hu. The papers should be prepared for blind-reviewing by removing all elements by which the author may be identified. Be aware of the fact that the software you use may automatically insert identification elements, so make sure you eliminate them! (E.g., check under File>Properties in Microsoft Word, or File>Document Properties in Adobe Acrobat. Consult your software's documentation on how to remove them.)

Each paper should be accompanied by a cover letter containing:

  • Author data (name, institution, contact details)
  • The title of the paper
  • Abstract (no more than 300 words)
  • The name, size, and word-count of the main paper file.

Receipt of the paper and cover letter will be acknowledged by email. Each paper will be first read by one of the editors. The editors reserve the right not to pass the paper over to the referees. We expect the reviewing process to be relatively short, so the author receives notice in no more than eight weeks. The editors may request that changes be made in a basically accepted text. All papers will be evaluated in terms of the following criteria:

  • Clarity of expression
  • Clearly stated thesis
  • Perspicuous argumentative structure
  • Originality
  • Comprehensiveness of the discussion
  • Other (article length, copyright issues)

Each accepted contribution will be published within 3 weeks after acceptance (but usually in a matter of days).

Edition guidelines

During the reviewing process, we are able to handle the most common document formats (Microsoft Word Document, Rich Text Format, Portable Document Format, etc.). The authors are expected to provide a final version formatted either as .doc, .rtf, or .tex file. Should you choose the latter, please use only logical markup, standard LaTeX2e packages and fonts, and include all the bibliography items inside the main document. Please check out the guidelines for more detailed instructions.

Privacy statement

The names and contact addresses of the contributors will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

Copyright information

The authors retain the copyright for the published essays. Percipi retains copyright for the issue compilation.
